LIST OF PROJECTS

HAVANA PROJECT

La Habana, Cuba
2017

The project aims to understand energy generation and distribution as processes that can emerge parasitically through specific prototypes, here, within the urban context. The concept of micro-intervention proposes small modules that internalize local climatic factors and act as apparatuses for autonomy.

Both goals—energy and water generation—are pursued using immediate local resources. Energy is captured from solar radiation, abundant in the Caribbean with over 300 sunny days per year, while water is produced through condensation. Havana’s high humidity (around 70%) allows moisture to condense on cooler surfaces (5–6°C), then be redirected to collection points and elevated storage tanks across city blocks.
The theory was applied in Old Havana, Cuba, where the water infrastructure is in precarious condition. Combined with recurring droughts, this highlights the urgent need for interventions addressing water generation, distribution, and responsible use. Energy generation is also central to achieving autonomy, yet remains limited by evident economic constraints.
